Admiral General Teodoro López Calderón, Chief of the Naval Staff (AJEMA) attended the Marine Corps Exercise ‘FTX FIM 17’ at the ‘Sierra del Retín’ training range on October 23rd to learn, first-hand, of the details of the different drills.

‘FTX FIM’ is an annual exercises which integrates all Marine Cops units. On this occasion, around 1,300 marines and 170 vehicles are taking part in the exercise.

The main purpose of the drills are to enhance the training level of this Fleet Force and, more particularly, the integration and interoperability of the different MC units.

This time, the fictitious scenario reproduced some current areas of conflict where a force is deployed under the aegis of a United Nations Resolution to counter the threats posed by terrorist, insurgent and criminal organizations. In this supposed scenario the MC Force must interoperate and support the Armed Forces and Constabulary elements of the host nation in crisis, as well as other civilian, governmental and non-governmental organizations.

During the exercise, the different units had to face and solve a series of conflict situations with standard rules of engagement. Thanks to these annual exercises, the Marine Corps’ Force is always in perfect readiness and availability and thus, ready to deploy wherever necessary at very short notice.
