Last week, 16 students from NATO’s MCM School paid a visit to the Spanish Navy Mine Countermeasures Force, as part of the collaboration framework between both military centers.
During the three-day visit, the students participated in several activities like visiting MCM Force facilities, embarking on the minehunter ‘Tambre’ to get acquainted with Spanish national procedures, and visiting two technological companies connected with underwater acoustics and electronics: SAES and INDRA. Other stops were visits to the Underwater Archaeological Museum and the Polytechnic University both in Cartagena. A demonstration was organized of the new AEGIR submarine vehicle, in waters of the Mar Menor.
The cooperation agreement between the Spanish MCM Force and NATO’s MCM School was signed by the Ministries of Defense of Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain, back in 2005. Activities contained in this agreement include training and teaching of Mine Warfare issues, the operational qualification of naval units and the exchange of information and cooperation.
