The OPV ‘Tarifa’ has just arrived at Cartagena after participating in a NAFO (North Atlantic Fisheries Organization) fisheries monitoring campaign in the course of a two-month deployment.

During the campaign the ship made several port calls; one in the Azores and two in the port of St. John in Canada for crew rest, logistic purposes and embarkation of NEAF (North-east Atlantic Fisheries Commission) inspectors.

The ship’s doctor also provided medical support to a Portuguese sailor who had suffered an accident, seriously damaging one of his hands.

The ‘Tarifa’ is scheduled to return to her inspection missions next October, this time in Spanish territorial waters in support of tasks sponsored by the State Fisheries General Secretariat.

The offshore patrol vessel ‘Tarifa’, with hull number P-64, was built in Vigo (Pontevedra) and delivered to the Spanish Navy in 2003. She belongs to the Maritime Action Force and is usually stationed in Cartagena Naval Base.
