The frigate ‘Canarias’ has participated in the bilateral exercise ‘MAES-14’ with Morocco between the 15th and 22nd of September. The exercise included a series of drills in port and at sea, aimed at enhancing mutual training and testing common procedures. The exercise was commanded by the Chief of the 41st Escort Squadron, Spanish Navy Captain Domingo Gómez-Pamo.

The first part of the exercise was conducted in Rota Naval Base with damage control drills (fire-fighting and breakdown control), simulation of flight accidents, naval force protection operations, training with the tactical simulator and coordination meetings. These meetings served to tighten the bonds between the crews of both warships.

Afterwards, the operational exercises included operations in support of the State Action at sea; maritime interdiction (MIO) against ships involved in suspected illegal activities, counter-piracy and surface warfare exercises, damage control and communications drills, flight operations and seafaring maneuvers.

Exercise ‘MAES-14’ concluded in Casablanca where the results of the different exercises were studied and analyzed. The outcome was very successful and yielded fruitful results both, as regards training and as an instrument to strengthen the relations between the two nations.
