OPV ‘Furor’ visits Ghana for a maintenance and military cooperation port call.

The offshore patrol vessel (OPV) "Furor" called at the Sekondi Naval Base in Ghana as part of her scheduled deployment in the Gulf of Guinea. During the period from April 15 to 24, the OPV’s Sustainment Support Group (GAS BAM in its Spanish initials) from the Las Palmas Arsenal and Cartagena carried out preventive and corrective maintenance work, ensuring the ship's operability for her extended mission in the area.

The logistic port call included essential maintenance tasks. This support guarantees the capability of the "Furor" to sustain an effective deployment for more than four months.

In addition to the logistic support, the visit served to include technical assistance from national companies for the repair of breakdowns, coordinated through the Cartagena Arsenal. The crew's morale was reinforced with the reception of presents from relatives, this time coordinated by the Command of the Maritime Action Force in Cartagena (COMARCART).

During her stay in Sekondi, the "Furor" also participated in military cooperation activities with the Ghanaian Navy, including briefings on the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and exercises in various operational areas.

The official visit of the Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, José Javier Gutiérrez Blanco-Navarrete, highlighted the Navy's commitment to the defense diplomacy plan. An official luncheon on board was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Ghanaian Navy, Rear Admiral Isaah Yakubu, accompanied by the Flag Officer of the Western Naval Command and their Fleet Commander, reinforcing bilateral ties in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

This logistic port call in Sekondi (Ghana) during the deployment of this mission framed within the so-called “Coordinated Maritime Presence” in the Gulf of Guinea demonstrates the Navy's capability and commitment to ensure the safety and operational efficiency of its units deployed in the area of operations.
